I extend to you a cordial welcome to the bew edition of the international conference on industrial heritage and tourism (,to be held in Zabrze from 21 to 22 May 2015). Ti is going to be an event putting together the spheres of culture, tourism and economy with the key message”Culture, art and entrepreneurship in the space of industrial heritage”. It will be accompanied to the International Fair of Industrial heritage and Underground Tourism.
The conference aims to review and exchange experience and accomplishments, engage in an international dialogue and formulate conclusions and recommendations regarding the use of industrial space for cultural and artistic pursuits combined with entrepreneurship. Year by year the outreach and importance of our conference has been on the increase and its output is markedly appreciated at the international level.
Owing to its rich industrial traditions, which have subsequently given rise to the care of industrial heritage and its consistent use for tourism purposes, the City of Zabrze has become host to these events. The conference is regularly attended by the institutions of the European Union, the Council of Europe, OECD, UNESCO and UNWTO, as well the relevant non-governmental organizations, such as the European Route of Industrial Heritage (ERIH) and the International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage (TICCIH).
Zabrze is called the city of science, culture and sport. It is also an attractive tourist destination. The Coal Mining Museum incorporating the Guido Mine is a great success. Guido, considered by experts to be the “pearl” on the Industrial Monuments Route, as a unique tourist site of this kind worldwide. Tourists descend to the levels of 170 and 320 meters underground by an authentic miners’ elevator cage. Work is underway to restore and bring back to life the subterranean water reclaiming tunnel (Główna Kluczowa Sztolnia Dziedziczna). Every year the Queen Louise (Królowa Luiza) Adit nearby, featuring a unique, still operating, hoisting steam machine, is also among the visitors’ favourite sites of great interest.
